come away with me.

23 Sep

is there anything more soothing than the sea breeze? the wind playing with your hair. salt tingling on your skin. seagulls. vastness. aaahhh!

i don’t think so there’s anyithing more soothing and comforting. except for maybe my mum making me a cup of warm milk with candied sugar. but mum wasn’t there, so marco and me drove all the way up north to the island rügen in the baltic sea.

and once you’re on your way, you don’t need anything but a good friend, a chilled playlist (which your friend LOVES to sing along to, although he knows hardly any of the songs), a fantastic book and a nice hotel right by the sea with spa and sauna (in case you want to ask me AGAIN: yes, us germans go into the sauna NAKED and no, there’s nothing sexual about it).

so let me take you on my weekend trip, listen to my playlist and hear the seagull’s cry.

SI SI SI!!! #neverendingurlaub (i caught as much summer as i could carry) or mallorca – mi amor.

8 Sep

Bild

this year my life is an amazing circle of working and travelling that i could absolutely get used to. after barcelona, hometown visits, hamburg and los angeles my next stop will be rügen and my last summer intermezzo was the beautiful island of mallorca that calls me once a year and i am more than happy to follow that call. i used to live and work there 13 years ago (OMG !) and ever since my mum and me spend at least 9 days (or more) each year there.

the one’s of you who’ve been there know.

and for the others, i have a little but exquisite selection of photos and some insider tipps if you are about to go to one of my happy places.

the city of palma.

you might think, that palma de mallorca doesn’t have much to offer as the island is not that big. but far from it! this city has art, culture, bars, clubs, amazing cafés, old buildings, galleries and beautiful shops. i used to live right by the cathedral of palma back then and every year i spent one day in the city. strolling around. observing. drinking cortado or discovering new beautiful shops. it’s a must on my mum’y and my to-do list .

BildBildBildBild BildBildBildBild)Bild

BildBildBild

so, here’s some things you should do when you’re in palma:

  • the museum es baluard. not only because its’ exhibits of contemporary spanish art, but especially because of its’ architecture. it’s been build into palma’s city wall and i’ve been amazed by the way the old and the new, steel and stones, glass and concrete are combined. the cherry on top is the view from the rooftop.

Bild

  • grand café cappuccino. there’s several cappuccinos in mallorca but these two are my faves. when i’m there, i always go to both of them and have a club sandwich for lunch at this one and later when it’s hot in the little streets and there is siesta, i have a nice coffee (and maybe a piece of delicious almond cake) at this one. it is magic. on top of this, i love the service there and for me as an iphone junkie it is great that you can recharge your phone at the table with a special device the waiter gives you (if you ask him with a charming smile).

Bild

  • the restaurant el bungalow. it’s wonderful! (see for yourself -> http://www.elephant10.com/restaurants_mallorca/124/el-bungalow)

fave spots on the island

  • flor de sal d’es trenc: the salt refineries near the beautiful beach es trenc. two german ladies fell in love with the refineries that were run-down and hadn’t been used for years. they leased the land and started their own mallorca fairytal-y success story. now they harvest the salt with lots of love and work together with a gourmet chef who creates their special kinds of salts for them. you can buy flor de sel with rose flowers or chili/orange and all other kinds at the beautiful shop that belongs to the area. you can also have an excellent coffee there and definitely try the amazing ice cream (that even has hints of salts in it as well). my faves were raspberry and chocolate.  (you can also buy the salt in several other stores around the island or in germany as well. but i like the fact to buy it directly where it’s been harvested).

BildBildBildBildBild

  • the sanctuary sant salvador: you are either a tough guy and bike all the way up (there’s many bikers on the island who love the climate and the winding streets. it’s an adventure though and i’n not that much of an uphill biker chick, so we took the car). i’ve already been up there some years ago and i would always go back again. the view is AHHH-MAZING. i would recommend to enjoy a coffee INSIDE of the sanctuary in the old little restaurant (not at the more touristic one that you see first when you are outside). it’s worth it!!

BildBildBildBildBild

and what else is there to do on the island? well, how about absorbing the sun, going for a boat ride, watching the sunrise? having an ice cream or just risking a jump? i leave it up to you?

hasta mañana ❤

californication diary::: do you know george snyder?

19 Jul

“we’re going to meet george on sunday for breakfast at his place. i will pick you up at 7. you’ll love him.”

that’s what sophia (aka teamgloria) said to me. i was slightly irritated but when i told this plan to my LA hosts they were shocked.

“7 as in 7 am? you HAVE to cancel!! we’re going out on saturday and that’s WAYYY to early!”

that’s what they said.

but i didn’t want to cancel. i wanted to have an early-bird LA experience, i wanted sophia to pick me up and, oh yes, i wanted to meet george snyder.

george.

i think, i’ve been following him almost as long as i follow teamgloria. it was her who put my attention to his lovely photos and to his blog.

so there we were. sophia and me at george’s beautiful place that instantly put a smile on my face.

i told him that when people come to my apartment in berlin, they often look around and say: “there’s so many things to see here.” well, that was exactly how i felt at george’s place.

george signed on wings of affection for me ♡ if you are interested in george’s highly entertaining books, you can find them on amazon.

IMG_8749

we chatted, had delicious yoghurt with berries and excellent coffee (oh, how much i appreciate a good cup of coffee no matter on which side of the world i am!) and blew german bubbles into the los angeles sky that sophia had brought from new york city. wow!

IMG_8755

if you want to read more about our gathering, visit teamgloria. and also watch her little movie here:::

thank you, george, for having us and for generously opening your doors to a foreign miss. and thank you sophia for making it happen!

i can’t wait to see you again. maybe here in berlin. soon xxx

the californication diary:: los angeles – the long-awaited get-together with @teamgloria.

13 Jul

it’s already been over two years, i assume, since i discovered @teamgloria‘s instagram which is filled with photos that make you believe that life is dream of lushness and luxury, subtle beauty and caressing candle light, cashmere and books, pink marilyn monroe phones, hiding behind large sunglasses and sipping martinis at château marmont.

in short, you want to know more about the person behind teamgloria. or is it more than one person, i asked myself before i started following her blog.

if you want to know more about teamgloria or sophia go here and find out more. or as she says herself, there you can read about who she is “in real life”.

i am fascinated by her ever since we met for the first time during my journey to NYC in december 2012. by her story, her life, her energy, her beautiful smile and voice (it is a bit fragile yet strong with an amazingly enchanting british accent. i think, she should be a voice actress, just like me) and when she moved from new york to los angeles it was clear to me that whenever i would cross the ocean and huge parts of the american continent to visit hollywood i would totally meet sophia as well.

so there we were. in los angeles. six months later.

i had already spent some days at my new home away from home in the hollywood hills and was very delighted by the prospect of some , let’s say, europeanism (those who know, know).

sophia suggested to pick me up (thanks again!!!) in the morning and off we went (in her very environmentally friendly prius).

so here it is. my day with @teamgloria. well, to be precise, this was my first day with her. we had two more lovely meetings afterwards under the californian sun…. but all in good time ❤

IMG_8616 IMG_8617 IMG_8618

sophia took me to the highschool where they filmed “GREASE” ♡♡♡ could you have guessed?

IMG_8619

IMG_8620

sophia dancing with her shadow…

IMG_8621

falling in love with cars happens hourly in los angeles….

IMG_8625

sophia took us to YOLK, the beautiful store of maria in silverlake, another wonderful insta-lady.

it was hard for me not to spent all my holiday money there. if you ever happen to be in LA, make sure to stop by.

also, i really enjoyed silverlake. it has something villagey to it that made me as a european feel at home instantly. little cafés and shops, a cute neighborhood that actually allows you to WALK around. hard to find in LA.

IMG_8627 IMG_8630 IMG_8635

IMG_8659

we drove through studio city past all those famous studios…

IMG_8640

and then sophia took me to BIG BOY for lunch. ah-mazing! felt like a time travel to the fifties. (i didn’t eat a burger, i had a nice BLT sandwich. yum!)

IMG_8648 IMG_8650

IMG_8652

afterwards we went to LACMA where we spent some time at the extraordinary stanley kubrick exhibition.

LOVED IT!

IMG_8666 IMG_8658 IMG_8668 IMG_8669 IMG_8670 IMG_8673 IMG_8674 IMG_8676

which is your favourite kubrick movie?

if i ever go back to LA (which i’m sure i will), i’m certainly going to spend more time at LACMA…

IMG_8680 IMG_8686 IMG_8697

sophia …

IMG_8655

vielen dank, sophia, für diesen wunderschönen tag*

and for all you others: be sure that @teamgloria will reappear in at least one other episode of my californication diary. if not in two.

be well, friends xxxx

the californication diary::: los angeles.

11 Jul

where do you start when you’ve travelled across the ocean to be with people you only met once in your life before but you feel like you’ve known them forever?

where do you start when you saw the most beautiful palm trees, the most incredible sunsets?

where do you start when you saw a hummingbird for the first time and it almost made you cry?

where do you start when you saw the hollywood sign for the first time and it brought tears to your eyes?

where do you start when you feel like you want to go back to a place you would’ve never imagined to love?

where do you start when you feel like you learned things about yourself that only travelling can teach you?

where do you start when you feel like you met your future husband on this journey, an incredibly amazing person who has no clue that you think, he’s the one for you?

where do you start?

i took a week now to come back, try do adjust, get over my (belated jetlag), reconnect with my friends (that was the easiest part). and now i am sitting here and wondering about where to start.

so i guess, i start with the beginning of my trip. i will try to focus on the important stuff and leave everything else out.

let me know if there’s any specific things you want me to focus on.

so here it starts

the evening before:::: insomnia!!!

Bild

DAY 1

i took of two weeks ago on a monday. excited and happy. wearing my ying yang leggings because they are comfy for a long flight and because, honestly, what else should you wear when you start your journey towards hippie central?

my plane took of over two hours, so i had to wait…

Bild

first good omen: the plane was fully booked except for the seat next to me. YES! what a treat! never had such a relaxed 12 hour plane ride before.

watched HITCHCOCK. made me laugh and cry. very impressed. great movie.

Bild

my lovely lovely anya picked me up from the airport with an ice cold water and a priceless smile on her lips.

Bild

i had to leave philippe brenninkmeyer (hot hot hot!) and patrick nuo (not hot AT ALL! in fact, he seems to be a huge douchebag) who were on the same flight behind and started driving towards HOLLYWOOD!

when we drove down the freeway i saw the hollywood sign for the first time in real life and almost caused a car accident because i started screaming. at that time i didn’t know yet that my home for the next two weeks would be right UNDERNEATH this beautiful landmark and that i could inhale it every day.

Bild

i spent the rest of the day not believing how beautiful the house and my room for the next two weeks are, sipping the champagne i brought with anya, having dinner at a sushi place and trying to scare away the jetlag with some cocktails and meeting dalton, anya’s roommate and bestie.

more to come. xxx

bbb and bs. (busy busy busy and barcelona streetart)

3 Apr

i am currently in the studio recording another audio book. what i can tell you already is: it involves crime, paris and sex with dragons. well, yes! i am young and need the money 🙂 well, actually it is kind of fun too. and every new task is a lesson and a chance to get better so i am totally dedicating myself to this.

as i have to record the songs for the HENRY HUGGLEMONSTER kids series in the evenings, i hardly get to write any posts (although there are still sooooo much more beautiful things i can show and tell you about barcelona, including reataurant and store tips and cool photos. but this has to wait…)

for now i will leave you with some photos about barcelona streetart. and there is quite a lot, believe me. barcelona has many little streets and alleys to discover that occupy the most beautiful streetart treasures. most of this we found in el born. thanks again to anna who showed us around!   (btw i only knew anna through instagram before i visted barcelona, but we had a real life catch up and it was great. we love instagram!!)

BildBildBildBildBildBildBild

look!!! we found romy schneider in el born…..BildBildBild

and then, the day before we left, we even started our own streetart project. nana and me found some lost postcards on our way to tibidabo. our idea for #fortunenotes was born shortly after. luckily i had brought some scissors, pens and washi tape to our journey and….

BildBildBildBildBildBild

and later that day….

BildBildBildBild

i really wonder if someone found them. or who. it makes me smile to think about that.

be well, my friends ❤

frohe ostern!

31 Mar

my dad flew me in for the easter days, so i am here. at home just for two nights.

(he called me three weeks ago and said: “if i pay for the ticket, would you come for easter?” something like this has never happend before, so i agreed of course, although the next week will be tough and i just returned from barcelona, as you might know…. yes yes, the barcelona blog post is still on the list, will be there soon).

so, i will leave you with some countryside easter impressions, it’s been snowing since last night. weirdly we had a green and warm christmas and now this. it hurts a bit to see all those cute birds here build their nests in those snow masses.

other than that there’s been happy news from LA. someone finally got her greencard after many many years* happy for you. let’s celebrate* (i’ll have a drink on you tonight).
