do you read signs?

9 Sep

a boy and a girl are sitting in a beer garden by a lake in a beautiful park. it is the last beautiful day of summer. the sun is shining onto them. shining so intensively that they can hardly see anything else but each other’s faces. and the wind is whispering in the trees. the leaves are catching the sunlight and absorb them and merge with it into a million different shades of green and gold.

they talk and chat and they have so many stories to tell that sometimes they wouldn’t finish one story cause the next one already comes up. or because they burst into laughter. and then there’s this moment a blink of an eyes maybe only 5 seconds. and they don’t talk. they just sit there in front of each other. maybe because the just finished laughing. the girl can’t remember if you’d ask her now.

it is not autumn yet. but it isn’t summer anymore either. she likes this feeling of being in a no man’s land between the seasons. it feels fresh. and new. like the feeling when you get to know someone. everything is possible. fascination.

so they stopped talking. and the sit there. in the sunlight. in front of their glasses. (yes, they had a glass of wine but they’re not drunk, if you were wondering)

and just when they were about to start their conversation again, a small leaf is sailing down from the tree above them. smoothly. elegantly. it dances a short dance with the wind and then. gently lands on the table between them. it’s small. about the size of a 2€ coin and it has the shape of

a heart.

she kept the leaf. because she liked the moment. the silence. the irritation. she liked the idea that it means something. that it is a sign.

and she is not certain if she likes this idea that the leaf might mean something more than the fact that it really does mean something. but does it matter? no. it was a beautiful. special. unforgettable moment. and the heart will always be.

the girl is me.

i like to read signs.

SI SI SI!!! #neverendingurlaub (i caught as much summer as i could carry) or mallorca – mi amor.

this year my life is an amazing circle of working and travelling that i could absolutely get used to. after barcelona, hometown visits, hamburg and los angeles my next stop will be rügen and my last summer intermezzo was the beautiful island of mallorca that calls me once a year and i am more than happy to follow that call. i used to live and work there 13 years ago (OMG !) and ever since my mum and me spend at least 9 days (or more) each year there.

the one’s of you who’ve been there know.

and for the others, i have a little but exquisite selection of photos and some insider tipps if you are about to go to one of my happy places.

the city of palma.

you might think, that palma de mallorca doesn’t have much to offer as the island is not that big. but far from it! this city has art, culture, bars, clubs, amazing cafés, old buildings, galleries and beautiful shops. i used to live right by the cathedral of palma back then and every year i spent one day in the city. strolling around. observing. drinking cortado or discovering new beautiful shops. it’s a must on my mum’y and my to-do list .

so, here’s some things you should do when you’re in palma:

  • the museum es baluard. not only because its’ exhibits of contemporary spanish art, but especially because of its’ architecture. it’s been build into palma’s city wall and i’ve been amazed by the way the old and the new, steel and stones, glass and concrete are combined. the cherry on top is the view from the rooftop.

Bild

  • grand café cappuccino. there’s several cappuccinos in mallorca but these two are my faves. when i’m there, i always go to both of them and have a club sandwich for lunch at this one and later when it’s hot in the little streets and there is siesta, i have a nice coffee (and maybe a piece of delicious almond cake) at this one. it is magic. on top of this, i love the service there and for me as an iphone junkie it is great that you can recharge your phone at the table with a special device the waiter gives you (if you ask him with a charming smile).

Bild

  • the restaurant el bungalow. it’s wonderful! (see for yourself -> http://www.elephant10.com/restaurants_mallorca/124/el-bungalow)

fave spots on the island

  • flor de sal d’es trenc: the salt refineries near the beautiful beach es trenc. two german ladies fell in love with the refineries that were run-down and hadn’t been used for years. they leased the land and started their own mallorca fairytal-y success story. now they harvest the salt with lots of love and work together with a gourmet chef who creates their special kinds of salts for them. you can buy flor de sel with rose flowers or chili/orange and all other kinds at the beautiful shop that belongs to the area. you can also have an excellent coffee there and definitely try the amazing ice cream (that even has hints of salts in it as well). my faves were raspberry and chocolate.  (you can also buy the salt in several other stores around the island or in germany as well. but i like the fact to buy it directly where it’s been harvested).

BildBildBildBildBild

  • the sanctuary sant salvador: you are either a tough guy and bike all the way up (there’s many bikers on the island who love the climate and the winding streets. it’s an adventure though and i’n not that much of an uphill biker chick, so we took the car). i’ve already been up there some years ago and i would always go back again. the view is AHHH-MAZING. i would recommend to enjoy a coffee INSIDE of the sanctuary in the old little restaurant (not at the more touristic one that you see first when you are outside). it’s worth it!!

BildBildBildBildBild

and what else is there to do on the island? well, how about absorbing the sun, going for a boat ride, watching the sunrise? having an ice cream or just risking a jump? i leave it up to you?

hasta mañana ❤

on a summer’s night.

21 Jul

i am sitting under a warm berlin moon reminiscing about love and life and true friends. and people that walk with you. walk with you along, next to you. they might even hold hands with you for a while till they have to take some other turn. or till you feel you have to push them away because it is just not right anymore to take the same directions.

but what if you just met a person who is so much of an enrichment of positivity that you feel dull when he’s gone. i’m not talking about infatuation. i am talking of the profound feeling that you have when you know someone important steps into your life.

and then. you realize he (yes, it’s a him), well, that he chooses to fucks it up. that he chooses to fucks himself up. and then he turns. and then everything is different

and you just stand there

helpless. jaw-dropping just standing there watching lightness turn to darkness.

and sparkles turn to rain

drops

.

.

.

.

i’m talking about drugs.

i’ve been with someone like that before. and i’m not going to put myself through this again.

so.

i just let go of that precious hand again. the hand i didn’t even really hold yet. i just held one finger.

for a second.

i let it go.

californication diary::: do you know george snyder?

19 Jul

“we’re going to meet george on sunday for breakfast at his place. i will pick you up at 7. you’ll love him.”

that’s what sophia (aka teamgloria) said to me. i was slightly irritated but when i told this plan to my LA hosts they were shocked.

“7 as in 7 am? you HAVE to cancel!! we’re going out on saturday and that’s WAYYY to early!”

that’s what they said.

but i didn’t want to cancel. i wanted to have an early-bird LA experience, i wanted sophia to pick me up and, oh yes, i wanted to meet george snyder.

george.

i think, i’ve been following him almost as long as i follow teamgloria. it was her who put my attention to his lovely photos and to his blog.

so there we were. sophia and me at george’s beautiful place that instantly put a smile on my face.

i told him that when people come to my apartment in berlin, they often look around and say: “there’s so many things to see here.” well, that was exactly how i felt at george’s place.

we chatted, had delicious yoghurt with berries and excellent coffee (oh, how much i appreciate a good cup of coffee no matter on which side of the world i am!) and blew german bubbles into the los angeles sky that sophia had brought from new york city. wow!

thank you, george, for having us and for generously opening your doors to a foreign miss. and thank you sophia for making it happen!

i can’t wait to see you again. maybe here in berlin. soon xxx
